Description: The objective of the project as a whole is to reduce costs and losses in the district heating system by improving combustion efficiencies, reducing leaks in transmission and distribution, and reducing losses in heat exchangers. Implementation of the project will result in a reduction of GHG emissions on the order of 1.4 million t/CO2 per year.
Objectives and rationale of the project:
Ukraine seeks energy sustainability through stable heat and power supply at socially acceptable prices and with minimal damage to the environment. Projected growth in manufacturing and service sectors is expected to lead to continued demand for energy supplies and services. Among the priority actions for the Government are to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This project is fully consistent with the goals and development strategies of the Government of Ukraine.
Heat production is consumed more primary energy than does electricity generation, and the current massive inefficiencies in municipal DH systems offer opportunties to reduce natural gas use by reducing heat losses.
